Christmas Gifts for Teenage Footballers (2026 List)

Jack, Founder 4 October 2026 7 min read

I'm 18 and play full back. These are the Christmas gifts for teenage footballers aged 12 to 17, girls and boys, that actually get used, whether they're 13 or 17. From stocking fillers up to the big one, The Pro Box: £37.99 with UK delivery included. Order by 12 December and it's posted by 16 December.

Ask a teenage footballer what they want for Christmas and you'll get "football stuff", which helps nobody. So this is the proper answer, written for whoever's doing the buying. Parents, grandparents, the auntie who always gets it right.

I've sorted it by type, starting small. One rule sits over all of it. Teenage players go through kit fast and grow even faster, so practical beats novelty pretty much every time.

Football gifts by age

  • 12 and 13: first proper boot bag, grip socks, a ball pump that actually stays in the bag.
  • 14 and 15: recovery bits like a foam roller and loop bands, winter training gloves, a big water bottle.
  • 16 and 17: a session with a qualified coach, match tickets, or kit they'd never buy themselves.

What do teenage footballers actually want for Christmas?

Stuff that ends up in the kit bag. If it comes to training on a wet Tuesday in January, it was a good present.

The football-shaped alarm clock and the slogan mug get a laugh on Christmas morning. Then they sit on a shelf. Nobody I've ever played with has been excited about a mug.

This list works the same for girls and boys. Football gifts for teenage girls and teenage boys don't need to be different, because the kit bag isn't different.

Stocking fillers for footballers

Small stuff that gets used up. That's the whole point. It never turns into clutter.

  • Grip socks. You can't have too many. They disappear in the wash and nobody knows where they go.
  • Sports tape. We go through rolls of it for socks and shin pads.
  • Spare boot laces, because one always snaps ten minutes before kick off.
  • Shin pad sleeves.
  • A boot brush for getting the mud off before it dries solid.
  • A small massage ball. It fits in a pocket and ends up living in the car.
  • A spare needle for the ball pump. They vanish faster than grip socks.

If you only buy one thing from that list, make it grip socks. I've never met a player who said no to another pair.

Football gifts for 13 and 14 year olds: kit bag upgrades

This is the middle bit. It's also where football gifts for 13 year olds and 14 year olds land best, because that's around the age players start properly caring what's in their bag.

  • A boot bag, so muddy boots stop going straight in with clean kit.
  • A big water bottle that doesn't leak. Most of us don't drink enough on match day, me included. I've written up how much water young footballers need if you want the detail.
  • Warm gloves and a training top for the December sessions when the pitch is half frozen.
  • A wash bag for after matches.

One thing I wouldn't buy as a surprise is boots. I know they look like the perfect present. But boots are personal. The fit, the studs and the surface they play on all matter, and a pair that's half a size off just sits in the box. Wrap a card that says "boots trip" and go and try them on together in the holidays instead.

Same with shin pads. They need to fit or they won't get worn.

Recovery bits they'll use

Teenage players can train three or four times a week plus a match. After a cold Sunday game, anything that makes the evening a bit better gets used.

  • A foam roller. It'll end up living next to the telly.
  • Resistance loop bands for warming up at home.
  • A hot and cold gel pack.
  • A massage ball, if it didn't already go in the stocking.

None of this is magic. It won't make anyone quicker. It just makes looking after your body a normal habit, and that's a good habit to have at 13. You don't need to buy an ice bath either. I looked into the ice bath vs cold shower question and at our age it's mostly hype.

The bigger gift: The Pro Box

This is where my own business comes in, so I'll keep it straight.

I started The Match Day Club to get proper kit into the bags of players aged 12 to 17. The Pro Box is the stuff I'd want in my own kit bag. Here's exactly what's in it:

  • A pair of grip socks. S/M fits UK 4 to 7, L/XL fits UK 8 to 12.
  • A roll of sports tape from FirstAid4Sport, latex-free.
  • A NUTRI-TEEN Berry Fusion bar.
  • 3 Vidrate electrolyte sachets to stir into your water bottle.
  • The Pro Box training journal. A6 wiro, with 6 challenge-log pages and a QR code to log your challenge and track your progress on the challenge page.
  • A 750ml finger-grip water bottle.
  • A spiky massage ball for tight calves and feet after training.
  • A black drawstring kit bag with the shield on it.

It's £37.99 with UK delivery included. Order by 12 Dec and we post it by 16 Dec with Royal Mail Tracked 48, so it should land well before Christmas. There are 50 boxes.

Have a look at The Pro Box and see if it fits your player.

If a box isn't for you, a decent ball for the garden or the park is the other bigger present I'd always rate. It gets kicked every single day.

Experiences beat stuff

Some of the best presents aren't things at all.

Tickets to watch a match together are a great one. It doesn't have to be a big ground. A local game you go to together still counts, and you'll talk about it all the way home.

A session with a qualified coach is the other. One to one or a small group. Ask the player what they want to work on first, whether that's their weak foot, first touch or defending one v one. Check the coach holds proper coaching qualifications and a DBS check before you book.

What not to buy a teenage footballer

This is the bit I care about most.

Energy drinks. Please don't. The government has announced a ban on selling high-caffeine energy drinks to under 16s in England, planned for April 2027 if Parliament signs it off, because of what they do to sleep, concentration and anxiety. It's why there's no caffeine in our boxes, ever.

Protein powder. Not needed. The Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute says supplements are not recommended for teenagers, and real food covers it. I broke down how much protein teenage players actually need and it's less than the adverts say.

Adult supplements. Pre-workout, fat burners, anything sold to grown men at the gym. UK Anti-Doping says there's no guarantee any supplement is free from banned substances. A 14 year old doesn't need that risk.

If it's sold to adults in a gym, it doesn't belong in a teenager's stocking.

And one more. Don't buy a shirt for a team they don't support. Ask first.

Quick answers

What do you buy a 14 year old footballer for Christmas? Something that goes in the kit bag. Grip socks, a boot bag, a big water bottle or a foam roller. For one bigger present, go for an experience or The Pro Box.

What's a good football gift for a 13 year old? Grip socks and a boot bag for the stocking. For the bigger present, a ball for the garden or The Pro Box at £37.99. Skip energy drinks and protein powder.

What are good stocking fillers for footballers? Grip socks, sports tape, spare laces, a boot brush and a massage ball. All cheap, all get used, none of it becomes clutter.

Can you give a football box as a Christmas present? Yes. The Pro Box is £37.99 with UK delivery included. Order by 12 Dec and it's posted by 16 Dec with Royal Mail Tracked 48, in time for Christmas.

Is The Pro Box good for girls who play football? Yes. Nothing in it is just for boys or just for girls. The grip socks come in S/M (UK 4 to 7) and L/XL (UK 8 to 12), so you pick the size that fits.

Are energy drinks or protein powder good gifts for teenage footballers? No. High-caffeine energy drinks are set to be banned for under 16s in England, and supplements aren't recommended for teenagers. Real food and water do the job.
